New Caledonia’s Congress President adamant Fiji will return to election in 2014

01 MARCH 2012 SUVA (PACNEWS) ---- New Caledonia’s Congress President Rock Wamytan is confident Fiji will return to parliamentary democracy in 2014

Wamytan was briefed this week by Fiji’s foreign minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola on the island nation’s progress towards democratic rule.

“I have no reason to question the implementation of the progress in place. I have no reason to doubt given the briefing on the process explained to me by the minister and also by the Prime Minister. I have a good impression about the roadmap that is in place,” Wamytan told journalists in a press conference in Fiji’s capital.

Wamytan also said the purpose of his visit is to exchange ideas and establish avenues where New Caledonia could explore mutually beneficial partnerships.

“There is a strong political will to engage in the process of regional integrations from us in New Caledonia to the region of the Pacific.

“This is one of the main purpose of the mission I have conducted, this morning for example I had a very interesting meeting with the acting Vice Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific to explore means and ways and possibilities to send our Kanak students to USP so they can come and be exposed to the region through USP environment knowing that Fiji is currently at the crossroad where people, communities and future leaders meet.

“With this political will in the course of this mission, I’m exploring ways of being able to facilitate the process of integration of New Caledonia into the region through Fiji.

Wamytan also pledge financial support on behalf of New Caledonia’s Congress and the government towards Fiji’s the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.......PACNEWS (PINA)
